New Year, Rooted in Care. As the first few days of the year quietly unfold, life on the land never pauses.
The shepherds are out early, watching over their sheep. The herdsmen are tending to cows and new calves. It’s cold, often freezing, and as my mother always said, those cows always need milking. There are no duvet days in farming, and no time off when the frost settles in!

Farmers are the custodians of our land
They are custodians of our beautiful land, a modern land army quietly holding everything together while most of us are still warming our hands on a mug.
The stalls unfold like a love letter to proper food:

This food isn’t made to sit on shelves. It can’t simply be wrapped back up and saved for another moment. It’s cut, crafted, and brought to you, fresh, honest, and ready. So yes … we need you. We really do !
And every fortnight, come rain, frost or pale winter sun, they gather at Kendal Farmers’ Market.
We need you to pop pen to paper and write the longest list you can.
To wander a little further round the market.
To find a new trader, a new flavour, a new favourite.
